Several area organizations are collaborating to offer a free community weekly exercise program along the Platte River Trails and beyond. The June 22 walk will begin at 6:00 p.m. from Adventure Park near Lansing Baseball Field off of Poplar Street. The walk will progress from Adventure Park to the Tate Pumphouse and return back. There is an option for a shorter walk by returning from a pre-designated hallway point. The June 22 walk is hosted by the Casper Community Greenhouse Project.

Walks are held each Monday during the summer; participants will travel from one pre-designated point to another primarily along the Platte River Trails. The program is a “progressive” event - the concept is that those who attend each week will cover the entire length of the Platte River Trail by the end of the program. All walkers are welcomed whether they attend each week or not.

The first seven weeks’ events are advertised as walks, but participants may join in who are running, riding bicycles, pushing a stroller, roller-blading or moving in some other manner under their own power. The length of each walk varies somewhat from 2.5 to 4 miles and may be shortened by turning around at the marked, pre-designated location. Weeks 8 and 9 are being designated for those on bicycles only as distances are significantly longer. The final week will be a measured 5K (3.1 miles) for either walkers or runners only. Finish times will be available for week 10.

This year’s “walking” program has a new name…Walk It, Bike It, Run It! The culminating three weeks are an added twist to the program and encourage cycling and culminating with a measured, timed event. Bus transportation will not be provided this year. Participants who are unable to return to their vehicles by their own power should consider turning around at the marked halfway points.

Walk It, Bike It, Run It! will be held each Monday evening through August 3. The remainder of the schedule is:
