While the majority of this devilish planet always appears to be working hard at contributing to either the rise and fall of human civilization, a new study suggests that most of the world isn’t working on anything at all.

Scientific journal The Lancet recently researched data from 122 countries in an attempt to determine which countries could be labeled the laziest in the world.

What they found was that apparently the majority of the world has nothing better to do than do nothing at all, with the southern European country of Malta topping off the list with nearly 72 percent of the population considered inactive.

The state of doing nothing is in abundance in the South African kingdom of Swaziland and Saudi Arabia, as well, since they took second and third, respectively.

Meanwhile, the United States was embarrassingly positioned at the number 46 spot with just over 40 percent of the North American population running on extreme idle, while our friends over in Britain suffered a fate much worse — 63 percent inactivity, ranking them eighth laziest country in the world.

Surprisingly, Greece was the winner of the least lazy nation title, with only 15 percent of the Mediterranean country branded as inactive.

In the worldwide grand scheme of things, women rated lower than men, mostly due to them not being able to seek outside employment because of social constraints in places like Saudi Arabia.

Researchers say that lack of exercise in now the leading cause of death and nearly a third of the world’s population does not meet the minimum activity recommendations of 2.5 hours of moderate activity per week.
