Having found numerous fuzzy and off-colored spiders around my home and work office in the last week, I decided it was time to do a little research. Wyoming has a plethora of different species of arachnid, but two stand out enough to make the Venombyte.com "Most Venomous Spiders Found By State" list. And those two are: the Hobo Spider (Tegenaria agrestis) and the Western Black Widow (Latrodectus hesperus).

Although I don't personally suffer from arachnophobia, I do have children, one still an infant, so I fear for their safety. That being said, here are a few good tips on avoiding spider bites:

1.) Shake out clothing and shoes before getting dressed.
2.) Inspect bedding and towels before use.
3.) Wear gloves when handling firewood, lumber, and rocks (be sure to inspect the gloves for spiders before putting them on).
4.) Remove bedskirts & move beds away from walls.
5.) Don't store boxes and other items underneath beds.
6.) Exercise caution when handling cardboard boxes (some spiders may inhabit the space under folded cardboard flaps).

Of course there are a multitude of other things you can do to keep you home semi-spider free, the best thing you can do is keep your house/apartment as clean as possible. Vacuum and dust on a weekly basis and make sure all windows, window screens and doorways are secure enough not to let them in to begin with.
