Wyoming Bull Riders Shining At NFR

Two nights after suffering a broken nose in the second round of the 10-day, $6 million Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Seth Glause of Cheyenne simply donned a helmet and covered a Growney Brothers bull named Canadian Tuxedo for a whopping 87.5 points. The ride won the fifth round and paid him $18,257, just one night after fellow Cheyenne cowboy Clayton Savage took the go-round win.

“I guess getting popped in the face must’ve woke me up a little bit,” cracked Glause, who grew up in Rock Springs. “The broken nose hasn’t affected me, although using a helmet for the first time felt a little different. But now I’m just here to do my job, and it doesn’t matter what’s on my head.”

Glause has earned $33,570 through the first half of the NFR, which has moved him from fifth in the world championship standings to third. The night of the broken nose, he scored 86.5 points, and in round three he racked up 82 points.

At the half-way mark, Glause trails leader J.W. Harris by more than $60,000 for a world title, but five rounds remain that pay $18,257 apiece, and the aggregate winner after 10 rounds can earn nearly $47,000 more. Most importantly, Glause is ranked second in the aggregate standings as one of just four men to have covered three of five bulls thus far. However, after tonight’s eight-second ride, he did hit the ground on his shoulder, which dislocated itself and then went back into place.

“I’m not real sure what happened; I hit the bull and then the ground pretty hard,” he said. “But I’ll still be getting on the next five nights, no matter what.”
