The University of Wyoming Cowboys men's basketball team have had a rough couple of months. They lost to Air Force. The struggled with out the help of their number one player Larry Nance Jr. out with mononucleosis. I know that this story is 24 hours old and most of you know that the Cowboys lost a crucial home game against Fresno State University. A team they beat on the road in three over times. To quote a recently passed NCAA coaching legend, UNLV's  Tark the Shark Tarkanien "you have to win at home and split on the road." The Wyoming Cowboys let one slip away. They lost to Fresno State 64-59. I listened to the game here at the radio station and as it unfolded I realized that the Cowboys got out coached. What does the head coach of the Wyoming Cowboys say: "A disappointing night for us, but I have to credit them," UW head coach Larry Shyatt said. "I've seen them play often enough to know they're in a lot of games, and they've won their share in conference play at 8-7. This wasn't a mistake. They deserved the victory. That's hard as a coach to say. Ultimately, I'm the responsible party when our team gets outplayed." This was a battle that the Cowboys were in till the end. And should have won. Wyoming and Fresno State (13-15, 8-7 MW) battled through nine ties and nine lead changes over 39 minutes, before a three from Adams brought the Pokes within 59-57 with 1:02 remaining. The Bulldogs ran the clock and missed a jumper, but got an offensive board and the ensuing tip-in with 19 seconds left to go up by four. The Cowboys missed on their next possession and Fresno State hit its free throws for their second victory ever in Laramie. This is where I get a bit over involved in Cowboy basketball. I remember when I was a kid sitting at the dinner table with my dad,  I'm trying to learn Latin so I can be a alter boy, he's paying bills for his 11 kids, and who was a Wyoming Cowboy Cheerleader with pictures of him doing a flip at a game in Cowboy Chaps hanging on our wall in the living room, (his roommates were Curt Gowdy and Tino Roncollio and Jimmy Speas), so as I walk through the station listening to the game I realize that were getting out coached. How can we allow Derrick Cook Jr. to get more fowls than points and remain in the game? You let the coach. Coach. You do that by not second guessing the coach. It's nice to know that the Cowboys are not going to be playing in the pig tail game. Things don't get any easier. The Cowboys go on the road to where else? The site of the Mountain West Conference Tournament (Las Vegas) to play UNLV. A team they beat earlier at home. The Pokes are at UNLV on Saturday for a 6 p.m. MT tip in the Thomas & Mack Center.
