This week a single dollar can make a world of difference. The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is Wyoming’s only food bank. They are working to fight hunger in Wyoming and they’re not doing it alone. Through Saturday, community organizations that focus on the effects of hunger and other social issues every day are holding a food and funds drive. Their goal: to make an impact on hunger in our community. Nine Natrona County organizations who all see the effects of hunger in the people they serve, are holding a week-long food and funds drive to benefit the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies. Organizations participating include: the Casper Police Department Victim Services, Children’s Advocacy Project, Self Help Center, CASA, Wyoming Division of Victim Services, 7th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Victim Witness Assistance Unit, Natrona County Sherriff’s Office Victim’s Services, and United States Attorney’s Office.

The public is encouraged to stop by any of the organizations and make a contribution. While food drives have traditionally been food-centered, Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies encourages monetary donations instead. Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies works nationally with Feeding America to make sure that food pantries, soup kitchens, after-school caregivers, senior centers, churches, and other organizations who serve the hungry do so at a very low cost to their partner organizations. Their purchasing power means that a $1 donation to Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies can purchase the equivalent of 4 meals.

Look for the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies at CY Albertsons Tuesday, April 24 from 2-6 pm, at Walmart East on Wednesday April 25 from 2-6 pm, CY Albertsons Thursday April 26 from 2-6 pm and at Walmart East on Friday April 27 from 2-6 pm. You can stop by those locations to make a food or funds donation and if you give just $1, you can add your name to the “virtual food drive” by signing your name on the orange pledge cards at the donation sites.

The food drive coincides with the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” awareness event which will culminate the week-long food drive. The walk takes place this Saturday, April 28. It begins at Conwell Park at 11:00 am and ends at City Park. The event is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. For information on the Walk please call 235-7576 and for information on the work Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is doing every day to end hunger, please call Kim or Jamie at 265-2172.
