In Wyoming, a person caught with up to three ounces of pot faces a misdemeanor conviction with a penalty of up to a year in jail. That may be changing.

There will be consideration of state penalties against marijuana during the next legislative session. A proposal from the Joint Judiciary Committee's discussion would reduce first-offense marijuana possession to a fine, but increase penalties for subsequent offenses.

Basically, first offenses would be misdemeanors but subsequent offenses would eventually result in felony charges.

Laws against distribution would not be affected either way.

Stay tuned for more details soon from the Capitol City.
