Vickie Diamond, President and CEO of Wyoming Medical Center, has announced her retirement date after 13 years at the hospital, eight years as president and CEO, and more than 40 years in health care.
Her last day is expected to be July first of next year but Wyoming Medical Center Board of Directors Chairman John Masterson says Diamond will stay on until the new President and CEO is selected.
"Since it's been a long time since we've needed to do a search of this nature of this position, like the CEO of the hospital, we're not clear if it's going to take four months or six months," he says. "Also, we want to make sure we go through all of the possible candidates that we have and if we don't find an acceptable candidate the first time around we'll continue the process."
Masterson says the hospital has seen many improvements and accomplishments under Diamond's leadership including the new West Tower and remodeled emergency room, as well as nationally recognized heart and stroke programs and more.
"You can't make a decision in that position without someone not agreeing with it but when all is said and done and you look her accomplishments, and what she's been able to do I think that we've been very lucky and hopefully we can find someone who can take that baton from her and continue what she's been doing."
The Board will hire a firm to conduct a nationwide search, and local and regional candidates are encouraged to apply.
