It's a moment that some Wyoming sports fans will never forget. On June 27, 2016, Brandon Nimmo recorded his first Major League hit for the New York Mets, lining a 2-2 fastball to right center in the top of the second inning versus Washington.

After going hitless in his big league debaut on Sunday, the highly touted Cheyenne prospect went 2 for 4 after collecting another single in the third inning.

Inuries have derailed Nimmo since become the first Wyoming player ever selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2011.

In 2014, he missed time due due to a bout of pink eye and a broken nose. In 2015, he was sidelined with thumb and knee inuries. Heading into spring training this year, he suffered from a torn foot tendon.

Finally healthy, Nimmo began the season on a tear at AAA Las Vegas. hitting .328 with five home runs and 37 RBI before getting called up to the majors.

Nimmo discussed his long road from Wyoming to the Big Apple with ESPN this week.

Saturday morning, his minor league manager Wally Backman told Nimmo that the team plane from Las Vegas to Reno was full and he would have to catch another flight before informing him "that flight goes to Atlanta"

"Then I just started hugging everybody. They all said congratulations. It was a pretty good one. He got me pretty good," Nimmo told ESPN staff writer Adam Rubin.

Here's hoping his hit last night will be the first of several hundred, and maybe even a few thousand, big league hits for Nimmo.
