The phrase “Go to hell” could involve a trip to Michigan where Hell is real and is for sale for under $1 Million. But for those of us in Wyoming, hell is a little smaller. Hell’s Half Acre is 40 miles west of Casper on the way to Shoshoni, Wyoming. Wikipedia says:

“The location was known as "The Devil's Kitchen", "The Pits of Hades", and "The Baby Grand Canyon" until a cowhand appeared and thought he was at Hell's Half Acre, full of alkali and bogs.”

If you’ve seen the movie Starship Troopers, you’ve seen what we’re talking about. It was filmed in part there serving as the film’s alien planet.

The publication Roadside America describes “Hell's Half Acre is a geologic oddity - a craggy horseshoe-shaped gorge that drops away from an otherwise flat plain where Highway 20 runs east. The 150-foot-deep gorge -- covering 320 acres total” Described as hell, many think it’s beautiful.

People have discovered Indian artifacts, buffalo bones and fossils here and geologists can have a field day, literally. Some may recall discovering a devilish restaurant / gift shop that was once there, but no longer. Hell's Half Acre is part of The Natrona County Park System.

That establishment is gone, but may get a replacement. In the meanwhile, visitors are met with a locked gate, so good luck going to Hell’s Half Acre.
