Another Try at the Smoking Ban in Casper

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — An ordinance allowing smoking in Casper bars could soon be up for a vote if a petitioner who has been fighting the law can verify about 60 signatures.

Kimberly Holloway has less than a month to verify those signatures from about 100 that she says were wrongly rejected on a 2013 petition to fully reinstate the ban.

The city rejected about 67 signatures from the petition, because those people had moved without notifying the county clerk. Holloway then sued, and the Wyoming Supreme Court agreed that a person's voter registration shouldn't be removed if they move within city limits.

If there are enough signatures, the City Council can adopt the changes or hold a special election after the signatures are submitted.
