As part of their service-learning project, Casper College nursing students are hosting a food-packaging event along with a food drive on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Chapman Lobby located on the second floor of the Gateway Building on the Casper College campus.

According to Marianne Madariaga, Casper College nursing instructor, volunteers are needed to help the students package 10,000 rice meals for both the Casper community and Nicaragua. The mission of Kids Against Hunger

“is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the United States and to feed starving children throughout the world.”

All materials for the food packaging will be provided for the event.

The students are also collecting donations for the Wyoming Food for Thought Project through March 31. The Wyoming Food for Thought Project seeks to find a local solution to childhood hunger through the Weekend Backpack Program. Each backpack will have bags for six easily prepared meals. Nonperishable items such as macaroni and cheese, instant oatmeal, canned chicken, granola bars, canned vegetables, shelf-stable milk, peanut butter, etc. are being requested.
