A former resident manager at the Casper Re-Entry Center who had a sexual relationship with an inmate and helped two inmates escape was sentenced to a three-year term of supervised probation on Friday.

Shayne Bonita Jones heard the sentence -- including a suspended three- to five-year prison sentence -- for the two counts of aiding and abetting an escape during a hearing in before Natrona County District Court Judge Daniel Forgey.

As a result of a plea deal in October to those two counts, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Taheri agreed to dismiss two charges of sexual assault, which meant Jones would not be a convicted sex offender.

Jones' attorney Dylan Rosalez said there have been several similar cases because the Casper Re-entry Center has hired young women in supervisory positions.

Rosalez said Jones accepts responsibility for the escape, adding she had no prior criminal history.

The case started on Oct. 9, 2017, when the Wyoming Department of Corrections began investigating an alleged sexual relationship between Jones and another inmate who denied the allegation.

On Oct. 13, 2017, she and that inmate, and another inmate left CRC and did not return. Jones used her personal vehicle to drive the men to California via Las Vegas.

The inmates were later apprehended in California and brought back to Wyoming.
