When Was The Last Time You Saw A Phone Book?
These days, when we want to make a phone call, we ask our phone and it fines the number for us and places the call. No need to look anything up manually.
There are still a few places out there that have the old-fashioned landlines and old telephones that are plugged into the wall. But that's rare.
The other day, a friend of mine came across a phone book at a local store. It was free to take. He brought it home because it had been such a long time since he had seen one. They used to arrive on our front porch at least once a year with updates.
Phone booths are just about all gone. We can look up any number just by using the internet or even asking our phone for assistance. There is no need to dial 411 for information, and we don't need operators anymore.
So - let me ask you - when was the last time you saw a phone book?
When was the last time you used a phone book?
If I asked the younger generation what the Yellow Pages were, would they know?
Does the younger generation even know how to use it?
Don't give the younger generation a hard time for not knowing how to use old technology. There was a time when the old was brand new, and nobody knew how to use it.
A few nights ago, I wanted to order a pizza. I asked my phone for the name of a pizza place near me. My phone gave me a few names. I told it which one I wanted to call, and it dialed the number for me. I remember, years ago, looking that information up in the Yellow Pages.
Do you remember finding your name in the phone book for the first time? Steve Martin shows the reaction in the movie THE JERK.
