It is not too surprising that Wyoming would have the most remote place in the lower 48 states, considering the size of the state and its population.

Before I tell you where it is, let's define what we mean by "remote."

The gentleman in the video below has chosen to define "remote" as the farthest from any road.

You can watch his explanation in the video below.

The best he could find was in the lower south-east corner of Yellowstone National Park.

An example of how we might think of remote, the most remote place in North Dakota is still 2.6 miles from the nearest road.

If you are ever lost in the woods, you might be surprised to find how close you are to a road, even if it is a dirt one.

But that doesn't mean that you are close to civilization.

This remote place in Wyoming is the Thoroughfare Ranger Station in Yellowstone National Park.

The Thoroughfare Ranger Station in Yellowstone National Park is the most remote building in the lower 48. It's located in the park's southeast corner, roughly 32 miles from the nearest road. The station includes a cabin, bar, and corral, and is near the headwaters of the Yellowstone River.

The video below was made by hikers who tracked out there.

Can you imagine working out at that ranger station?

Hikers will come by occasionally. But they must be super hardy.

There are trails in the area, but no roads.

Most who read this now know of the place, but will never go there.
