WATCH: Red Canyon Wyoming Fire Update
There has been some progress on Wyoming's biggest fire of 2025.
But there is still a long way to go.
Below is the latest update from the Red Canyon Information Site:
Crews made more progress today on the Red Canyon Fire despite outflow winds beginning as early as 6 a.m. Firefighters continued mop-up and containment efforts-patrolling, locating and extinguishing hot spots, and reinforcing fireline on the ground.
On the southeast side, challenging fire behavior driven by winds, high temperatures, and low humidity required crews to conduct two defensive firing operations to reduce the risk of the fire crossing Pack Saddle Road.
Crews, dozers, and aircraft also quickly contained two spot fires in this area.
While these firing operations increased the total acreage, they successfully strengthened the southeast corner and lowered the chance of the fire moving beyond containment lines.
Night shift crews will continue securing this area this evening.

The southern end of the fire is contained, and mostly out as the fire moves north.
They are just making sure it does not erupt again.
A lot of effort is being put into the east and north sides of the fire, as that is the direction it is currently moving.
Heavy drops from tanker planes, along with lightning backfires, are being employed in an attempt to increase containment.
A little relief will come in the way of cooler weather for this weekend.
But it will not rain for a while.
Rain is needed.
