KWHS FFA Collects Supplies For Wyoming Military Overseas [VIDEO]
A Casper student group is working to see that military members overseas get some of the little luxuries, and even the basics, they sometimes lack. The Windy City FFA Chapter at Kelly Walsh High School is in the process of collecting items to send to Wyoming troops, and are welcoming the community to pitch in.
"It's nonperishable items like toothpaste, ramen noodles, even Jolly Ranchers stuff like that that, you know, people overseas don't get that often," said Johanna Motor, President of the Chapter. "We are collecting all of that from the community, from our school, from members of our chapter and we're going to have them packaged and then we'll send them over. We have an Adopt-A-Box program that you can contact us to learn more about and each box is $14.35 to send."
Agriculture teacher Jessie Bower says the project goes until Spring Break. "Again, we just get out into the community and and try to do as much as we can. Part of the FFA motto is living to serve and so it's really important to us that our members understand that part of life is helping others," said Bower. "And so we really do get out in the community and this is just one of those events and we tried to kick it off during National FFA week and we will wrap it up right before the students go to spring break its on March 22nd."
Items needed include personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste and saline eye drops, lip balm, and travel-sized lotions. They're also looking for things such as playing cards, small batteries, word searches and crossword puzzles, notebook and stamps, and more. Bower says, the students are also sending something special. "I've encouraged my students even to write a letter and we can put letters from home and send a box of those guys know that we love and support them and are thankful for their service."
You can find a more complete list of items on on the Windy City FFA Facebook Page. Items can be dropped off at Kelly Walsh High School or you can contact Ms. Bower at 253-2000 or by email at Jessie4210@Natronaschools.Org.
