Michael Ray spent time with us on the phone talking about the upcoming Casper concert with Old Dominion, his recent engagement to Carly Pearce and the right way to eat salad.

Michael Ray was nominated for the Male Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2016 ACM Awards. Now, he's about to embark on a headlining tour of his own. We asked him about that transition from newcomer to headliner.

Michael Ray: "Man, it's been incredible. Carly and I the other day. We have these photos. One of me when I was a kid playing with my grandfather. One of her when she was younger at a show. We always go...I wonder if these two kids knew what was ahead...if they only had a chance to see a little crystal ball or something. I just feel so blessed...to be able to do what I love. All I ever wanted was to be a part of country music."

In December, Michael became engaged to the love of his life, Carly Pearce.

Michael Ray: "It's been exciting. It's been a very cool season of life".

Prairie Wife asked the obvious question about what he will be wearing at the wedding.

Michael Ray: "Funny enough. We're actually in the middle of doing that now. She's such a fashion...you all have seen she's always on all the time. I'm like just the guy that's happy to be right next to her...I'm doing a suit for sure...she's matching the color of my jacket to what the flowers will be...which is way out of my zone."

Michael shared some very peculiar salad preferences on Twitter. He agrees with us that salad belongs in bowls and not on plates.

Michael Ray: "Thank you. I've never really had a pet peeve I don't think, but the lettuce is everywhere. Let's put it in a nice little bowl and then nothing goes anywhere...it saves me getting stuff all over my clumsy shirt...it just makes no sense."

We learned that Michael was in Big Piney, Wyoming a couple of years ago.

Michael Ray: "I was. I wanna say it was like two years ago...growing up in Florida, Wyoming...that whole part of the country just honestly like blows my mind...anytime I'm out there, They are real...I thought this was only in movies."

Michael will be performing at the Casper Events Center on Wednesday, April 10 opening for Old Dominion. You can follow what he's up to on his official website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
