Online Dating Scammer Threatens Natrona County Man With Nude Pics

Here's another scam to avoid:

A Natrona County man claimed unknown suspects threatened to distribute a video of him undressing on an internet site, according to an incident report from the Natrona County Sheriff's Office.

The 26-year-old man, who lives on North Eight Mile Road, contacted a sheriff's deputy Friday to say he communicated with an unknown female on the "OKCupid" online dating site earlier that morning, according to the report.

The unknown female and the man agreed to use a third-party application from Google called "Hangouts."

He watched a video of an unknown female undressing, and he, too, was undressed in full view of his camera, according to the report.

A short time later, he received a text message from the female asking, "'Money or reputation?'"

The man refused to give any more information, and the unknown suspect or suspects responded they would send the video to the man's family and others, according to the affidavit.

"The other party sent a screenshot of a naked [man] as proof of the images they were in possession of," according to the report. "[The man] ceased conversation with the other party."

A sheriff's deputy saw text messages from a phone number with a Colorado Springs area code, the profile the man gave to an email address, the photo of him and the "Money or reputation" message.

The deputy believed the man was a target of an internet scheme and told him it was unlikely the suspects would be contacted based on their dialog and vague information.

"[The man] stated he figured the suspects were not local, and only wanted to report the incident to law enforcement," according to the incident report.

The deputy encouraged the man to change his profile passwords and document any further communications from the other party or similar incidents, according to the report.
