Medicine Bow National Forest

Windy and dry conditions pushed the Squirrel Creek Fire in multiple directions on Sunday, forcing evacuations and rapidly growing the blaze to over 7,000 acres in size. Fire activity on the Medicine Bow National Forest, Laramie Ranger District, calmed down on Monday morning, but could pick up later in the day.

The Russell’s Camp Fire in southwest Converse County continues to grow and is now estimated at over 5,400 acres.

LARAMIE, Wyo - June 14, 2012 – Stage I fire restrictions went into effect on the Medicine Bow National Forest and Thunder Basin National Grassland as of midnight on June 14, 2012.

The Cow Camp Fire in North Albany County is estimated to be at 8,492 acres on Monday morning and is at 90% containment. The burn area is approximately five miles southeast of Laramie Peak and is currently burning on the Medicine Bow National Forest and private lands.

It's crazy when you think about how dry things are in the Cowboy State compared to seasons past. At least one upside is that some of your favorite parks and camping areas, including the Medicine Bow National Forest, will be opened up and ready for you.
