Wyoming Cowgirls Are Back in the WNIT [UPDATED]
For the third straight year, the Wyoming Cowgirls have accepted an invitation to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).
Wyoming (22-8) received an at-large selection. They will host Northern Colorado on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. from the Arena-Auditorium. This will mark the ninth postseason appearance in Joe Legerski's 16 seasons as head coach.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
This will mark Wyoming's 10th appearance in the WNIT. The Cowgirls have a 14-10 record all-time in this tournament, and that includes a championship in 2007.
UW has hosted two WNIT games each of the last two years. They lost an overtime game in Round 2 by one, 67-68, to Washington State in 2017. Then, after a first-round win last year over New Mexico State, the Cowgirls lost to UC Davis in Round 2. They’ve gone 2-3 in their last five WNIT contests.
In fact, Wyoming has hosted the last 19 WNIT games they’ve played in. Their last road game was in 2003 at Colorado State.
The Cowgirls still holds seven WNIT Postseason records, including the most points scored in the tournament with 452 points in 2007. They also have played in front of three of the 11 largest crowds WNIT Postseason history. The sellout in 2007 for the championship game of 15,462 is No. 3.
Wyoming is one of three teams from the Mountain West Conference in this year’s field. They are joined by New Mexico and Fresno State.
