The secretary for the Wyoming Republican Party, charged with assaulting another party leader, quit during a party meeting in Casper on Saturday, according to a news release Monday.

The party held the meeting to address alleged misconduct by party secretary Charles Curley, who allegedly hit Wyoming GOP Executive Director Kristi Wallin in Cheyenne on Feb. 23.

After the report of the alleged assault, party officials suspended him on March 8.

During the meeting, Curley, who is from Hot Springs County, tendered his resignation effective immediately.

Last week, he was charged with simple assault in Laramie County Circuit Court.

Cheyenne police spokesman Kevin Malatesta says officers investigated a complaint by Wallin that Curley pushed her.

If convicted, Curley could be fined up to $750.

Meanwhile, the party has named Leigh Vosler of Laramie County as interim secretary, according to a news release from the party.

Vosler was born in Cheyenne, graduated from East High School, earned a degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, and pursued graduate studies at the University of Wyoming.

She is the past chairwoman of the Laramie County Republican Party, a past state committeewoman, and was an elected delegate and alternate to two Republican National Conventions.
