A five-vehicle crash that occurred Monday on a highway outside Laramie left one person dead and two others with serious injuries, according to officials.

The people involved have not been publicly identified.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeremy Beck said the crash was reported on Highway 230 near milepost 19. It involved five total vehicles including two commercial trucks, one of which was hauling hay.

Though the circumstances of the initial collision were unclear Tuesday, Beck said the hay caught fire after the crash. The person who died was in one of the commercial trucks, he said.

"It took quite a bit of time for fire crews to extinguish the hay fire," Beck told K2 Radio News in a phone interview.

Two drivers were hospitalized with serious injuries, Beck added. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
