2 Die in Separate Crashes Wednesday on Snowy Wyoming Interstate

Two people are dead as the result of separate crashes that occurred about 30 minutes apart on Interstate 80 amid snowy, icy conditions as a winter storm moved through the area Wednesday afternoon.

Bohdan Adamko, 60, of Illinois, was driving a commercial truck near Wamsutter when he was involved in a head-on collision shortly before 3:30 p.m. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash; one other person was hurt.

A Wyoming Highway Patrol crash report does not identify which vehicle Adamko was driving, but states that an eastbound Freightliner was traveling too fast for conditions when the driver lost control, traveled through the median into the westbound lanes an hit a Volvo head-on.

About half an hour later, 50-year-old Washington state resident Mario Ruiz Vite died after a rollover crash near Elk Mountain. Vite was not wearing a seat belt; four other people were not injured in the wreck.

Vite was a passenger inside a Ford Explorer which was traveling too fast for the winter conditions. Blowing snow was reported in the area at the time.

The driver lost control on the icy road and the Ford exited the interstate to the right, then went into a slide before rolling once. Vite exited the vehicle, but then collapsed and died at the scene, according to a crash report.
