Casper Area Mountain Bike Youth Racing Program Wins Award
The Casper Area Mountain Bike Youth Racing team captures the 2014 Trailblazer Award by the Colorado chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. Trailblazer recognizes a student-athlete, head coach, or team who has persevered through challenging circumstances and overcame adversity to develop and excel as a model.
Casper received this award due to the efforts of athletes like Eric Conyers, Kit Kat Gruner and coaches Leif Johansson and Adam Leiferman. The team has been in existence since 2013 and has come far in a short amount of time.
Kate Rau, spokesperson for Colorado High School Cycling League said,
“When you compare what Casper has done and achieved against mountain bike strongholds like northern Colorado, you can’t help but be impressed, they just finished their second season and it’s remarkable where they have come from to where they are. I think it’s because of the competitive nature of their athletes and, unquestionably, the coaching they get from Leif and Adam of Fat Fish Racing.”
Rau went on to say that Wyoming is developing its high school mountain bike scene in Cheyenne, Laramie and Casper through their unaffiliated high school teams.
