Casper Burglary Call Leads to Methamphetamine Arrest

A Casper man was arrested Monday morning after a reported burglary led police to discover nearly 30 syringes and other paraphernalia allegedly used to smoke methamphetamine in the man's pickup truck.

Bradford L. Holt, 41, was booked on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Court documents say Casper police officers were dispatched to a home for a report of a residential burglary shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday. Officers were told that the suspect ran away from the home toward a nearby motel.

As officers investigated, one of them noticed a silver Dodge pickup with its hood open and several wires coming from the truck laying on the ground.

One officer saw something move inside the Dodge, so he walked toward it, the affidavit says.

That's when the officer reportedly saw a man, Holt, get out of the truck with two knives in his hands.

The officer asked Holt to put the knives down, and he did.

According to the affidavit, the officer asked Holt what he was doing and how he related to the burglary call. Hold reportedly said his truck broke down and he was waiting for someone to return with a new battery.

The officer saw beer cans in the truck, court documents say, and Holt said he'd been drinking in the truck but hadn't been driving.

Officers asked Holt if he had any drugs in his possession. Holt allegedly said he didn't, but then said he had a syringe and a jeweler's bag of methamphetamine in his pocket.

Holt was handcuffed, and officers searched the truck.

The search allegedly turned up another 28 used and unused syringes, a methamphetamine pipe, two spoons with methamphetamine residue on them and two clear round containers with methamphetamine residue inside.

Holt allegedly told officers he had used methamphetamine for over 20 years, usually injecting or smoking it. Officers did not find any prior drug-related convictions in Holt's criminal history.

The police affidavit on Holt does not indicate the outcome of the burglary call for which officers were initially dispatched.
