Enjoy A Family Day At Casper’s Annual Father’s Day Event
This weekend is Father's Day, and if you didn't know, the holiday was created in the early 1900s by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, whose father was a Civil War veteran who raised six children on his own. Not long after Mother's Day was created, Sonora approached her pastor, saying that fathers should have a holiday honoring them as well.
The holiday was unofficially celebrated each summer until 1966, when President Johnson proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day; in 1972, President Nixon signed it into law.
Today, BBQ grills get fired up, socks, ties, or other gifts are wrapped, and the day is spent with dad doing the things he enjoys.
This Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Casper Housing Authority is hosting its Annual Father's Day Event at Washington Park in Casper.
The day will be a perfect opportunity for families to come together in the park and celebrate Dad, and he won't have to work the grill. There will be free family-friendly activities, a BBQ, snow cones, cotton candy, and drinks, and the best part, it's absolutely free.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development initiative that aims to strengthen the bond between children and their fathers and connect Dads to supportive services in their communities.
You can use the money saved to buy Dad a cool gift this year, but I assume that just getting the chance to spend the day with his kids will be the best gift. Actually, you could do a double celebration by attending the CHA event on Saturday and still throwing a Father's Day party on Sunday.
