CASPER - Join Casper Mayor, Kenyne Schlager and other statewide partners in promoting April as child abuse awareness month in Wyoming during a press conference at the Children’s Advocacy Project, Inc. in Casper on April 20thth at 11am.

During the press conference, Mayor Kenyne Schlager will declare April as child abuse awareness month. Several partners will also discuss child abuse in Wyoming and ways to prevent child abuse. After the press conference, partners, community members and the general public will acknowledge the 212 children’s pinwheels on the front lawn of the Children’s Advocacy Project, Inc.  The public is encouraged to attend.

Child sexual abuse is a hidden epidemic in our nation, state and even our own community.  Experts estimate that before the age of eighteen, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused.  Astonishingly, less than one in ten will tell.  Child sexual abuse is one of the last cultural taboos.  We don’t want to talk about it, but it is happening in our community.

Join the Children's Advocacy Project in recognizing child victims across the State of Wyoming.  It is every adult's responsibility to learn how to become better educated about child abuse and child sexual abuse.  We must learn how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

The Children’s Advocacy Project, Inc. is a private, non-profit program dedicated to ensuring a comprehensive and multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child physical and sexual abuse and other crimes involving children by utilizing professionals working in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse crimes.  In 2011, CAP provided 212 Forensic Interviews, served over half of the counties in Wyoming and provided training about child sexual abuse to more than 200 individuals across the state.
