UPDATE (2:29 p.m.):

Carrie Gross is no longer employed as a substitute teacher with the Natrona County School District, according to a statement from district spokesperson Tanya Southerland.

============================================================

Casper police arrested a substitute elementary school teacher on Friday after she was reported as being impaired while at the school where she was working.

Carrie Gross, 39, was booked into jail on a recommended charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Sgt. Scott Jones responded to Pineview Elementary School at 2 p.m. Friday. A Natrona County School District risk manager had requested law enforcement at the school in case Gross attempted to drive away.

Several school staff members reportedly observed Gross as "markedly impaired." When she met with an assistant principal, Gros was reportedly lethargic and provided inconsistent, nonsensical answers to questions. She also allegedly slurred her speech.

Gross allegedly denied using medication but at one point said she had consumed alcohol. However, she recanted that statement. She declined to submit to chemical testing by the school district.

Gross also refused field sobriety testing by Sgt. Jones. He found her to be obviously impaired, and believed Gross was under the influence of marijuana as well as a central nervous system depressant.

According to the affidavit, Gross refused multiple offers from Jones and school district employees for a safe ride home. She was then taken to jail without incident.
