Cruella De Vil’s Live-Action Movie, ‘Cruella,’ Coming From Disney
In the age of spinoffs and standalone stories, it looks like '101 Dalmatians' villain Cruella De Vil is getting her own spinoff movie at Disney! But Glenn Close will not be starring in this one ... yet, anyway.
THR has revealed that Disney has hired Aline Brosh McKenna -- the scribe behind the studio's live-action 'Cinderella' film and, more appropriately, 'The Devil Wears Prada' -- to write the script for a new live-action feature on this classic Disney villain titled, 'Cruella.' Producer Andrew Gunn ('Race to Witch Mountain,' 'Bed Time Stories,' 'Sky High') has also boarded the project. Unfortunately, details on the film are unknown, though it's safe to say Glenn Close, who starred as De Vil in the live-action '101 Dalmatians' and '102 Dalmatians,' won't be the lead this time around.
'Cruella' seems to fit ever so nicely into Disney's trend of bringing animated films back to life in live action, and we can probably predict where this film will go. Considering the premise for Angelina Jolie's upcoming turn as 'Sleeping Beauty' baddie 'Maleficent' and even the success of Universal's 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' we're assuming this'll be more of an origin story, taking us behind the scenes of this classic villain to explain her lust for puppy coats. But that's just a theory, one we wouldn't be surprised to see actually play out.
If anything, the person who wrote 'The Devil's Wear Prada' seems like the perfect choice to take on 'Cruella.'
