Ranching is a tradition that we hold dear in our hearts here in Wyoming.

Generations of families have created a living from raising herds of cattle (or sheep) out here under the vast Western Sky.

It's an industry that is largely misunderstood, even by many of us that live here.

Ranching is also an industry that has vastly changed in the last few decades...some may say for the better...and others may not. But no one will disagree that it's changing drastically and that more change is ahead.

The University of Wyoming wants to encourage the future Ranchers of Wyoming to stay fluid and flexible and remain at the head of all the changes coming to the Agriculture Industry.

This year they're doing that by offering a Wyoming Ranch Camp for recent High School Graduates and College Students.

Ranchers face many challenges to operating a sustainable ranch. Wyoming’s climate creates unique challenges and necessitates that a ranch manager be extremely competent in managing range and pasture resources. It is imperative that young producers be given opportunities to hone and practice their skills to better prepare them for these challenges.

The Ranch Camp is 5 days long and will be held May 23-27 at the Queen Mountain Lodge on the Broadbent Ranch near Evanston.

Some of the topics that will be covered are how to manage pastures and rangelands for long-term sustainability and learning the basics of a ranch business plan, economic tools for analyzing ranch decisions.

The cost for the Wyoming Ranch Camp 2022 is $200 and there are scholarships available.
