Wyoming’s Emergency Rooms Are Quicker Than You Might Think
One of the most frightening moments a Wyomingite can experience is when they require emergency assistance. We have a lot of open space where there may not be a hospital nearby, meaning you may have a long drive to get to the Emergency Room before being treated. Once you get to the ER, you don't want to have to wait around for a long time. You want to get in and get out as quickly as possible.
According to data, the average American will make 34.5 trips to the ER in their lifetime. That number is crazy to me, but I suppose some people go to the hospital for a sniffle, which makes up for those of us who have only gone a couple of times.
If, on average, you're at the ER 34.5 times in your life, that's a lot of time spent there. Lucky for us, even if you visit the ER frequently, Wyoming is in the top 20 for the shortest average time spent in the ER.
The healthcare staffing company NURSA collected data that shows the length of time a patient spends in the hospital during an ER visit. The average time is 2 hours and 35 minutes, which isn't too bad.
In Wyoming, the average ER visit is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
That's not too bad considering the poor folks in Maryland have an average ER visit time of 4 hours and 11 minutes, which is 62% longer than the average time spent in the ER. If you're wondering, North Dakota takes the prize for the shortest visit time with 1 hour and 50 minutes.
