Food Channel Features Wyoming Bison Burger [VIDEO]
Carnivores here in the Cowboy State consider bison to be one of the tastiest meats on the planet.
This week, the Food Channel posted a delicious YouTube video featuring their recipe for "Wyoming Bison Burgers", which includes skillet cooked ground bison, melted gouda, mayo, lettuce, pickle, bacon, onion straws and bbq sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun.
Not only are bison burgers full of flavor, they are much healthier than traditional ground beef burgers.
According to Consumer Reports, a three ounce bison patty contains just over 150 calories and seven grams of fat. By way of comparison, a 90% lean beef burger has over 180 calories and 10 grams of fat.
In fact, bison burgers are even leaner than turkey burgers, which also average 10 grams of fat.
Because bison is so lean, experts suggest adding more toppings and vegetables when making bison burgers. They also recommend cooking bison in a skillet instead of the grill in order to preserve the natural juices from the meat.
