Gordon Says He’s Running For Re-Election As Wyoming Governor

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon says he's running for re-election to the state's highest office in 2022.

Gordon made the announcement in Buffalo on Monday, saying ''There's more work to do.''

Gordon was elected governor in 2018, defeating arch-conservative Foster Friess and several other candidates in the 2018 GOP Gubernatorial Primary with a plurality of 33 percent of the vote.

He then easily won the November General election, defeating Democratic candidate Mary Throne, a Cheyenne attorney and former state legislator by a margin of 67-28 percent.

In a release announcing his run for a second term on Monday, Gordon said:

“We’ve cut taxes, passed a budget that is $400 million less than 2020, reduced the size of state government to its smallest level in 10 years and strengthened our right to bear arms by enacting the Second Amendment Protection Act. But there is more work to do.”

“Wyoming and the world have been through a tough stretch these past two years, but we focused on saving both lives and livelihoods. We adjusted our budget and resisted pressure to enact ‘shelter in place’ orders, which resulted in Wyoming logging more in-person school days than any state in the nation."

Wyoming's formal candidate filing period is coming up in May, with the primary election slated for August 16.
