LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirls suffered their first setback at home this season with a 4-1 loss to Colorado Sunday afternoon in Laramie. Wyoming got off to a good start in the match, taking the doubles point before CU responded.

The Cowgirls (3-4) won the doubles point with relative ease as they got a pair of 6-3 wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. At No. 1, the team of Violetta Borodina and Sophie Zehender were victorious to keep their perfect dual record intact as a tandem. Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova at the second position. At No. 3, Jeselle Ante and Lucia Malinak were leading 5-4 when doubles was stopped due to UW clinching the point.

Wyoming had its opportunities in singles play, as it lost two three-set matches, both of which the Cowgirls had won the first set. Brink lost at the second spot, 6-2, 2-6 and 2-6 while at No. 4, Ante won her first set 6-2, before dropping the next two sets 2-6 and 0-6. Borodina lost a first set tiebreak at No. 3, 7-4, to lose the first set 7-6. She then dropped the second, 6-4.

UW will return to action next weekend with matches against UTEP and Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. The Cowgirls will face UTEP Saturday, February 10 and NAU Feb. 11. Both matches are scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team dispatched UNCG handily Friday afternoon at the Laramie Tennis Complex. Wyoming took care of business 6-1 to move its record to 3-3 on the season, including 2-0 at home.

The Cowgirls jumped on the Spartans early by taking the doubles point. UW won at the No. 2 and 3 positions Friday to clinch the point. At No. 2, Jeselle Ante and Lucia Malinak were victorious 6-1. While at the third position, the tandem of Serina Abriola and Adel Ismagulova also won, 6-1.

Singles were just as profitable for the Cowgirls in the victory, as they won five singles contests. Wyoming got a trio of straight-set wins in singles action. Noesjka Brink won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Nikol Dobrilova won quickly at the second spot, 6-0 and 6-1 while at No. 5, Serina Abriola also won in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2.

UW also got wins from Lucia Malinak at the No. 4 position and Adel Ismagulova at No. 6. Malinak rallied to win her contest 5-7, 7-5 and 6-1. Ismagulova, meanwhile, took her match 7-5, 2-6 and 1-0 (12-10) as she pulled out a thrilling third-set super set victory.

The Cowgirls now shift their focus to a Sunday showdown with Colorado at noon in Laramie. Wyoming will be in search of its third consecutive victory.
