LARAMIE -- The National Football League’s season got off to an emphatic start this week, and a former University of Wyoming Cowboy was at the epicenter of it. Josh Allen thrilled fans, the ones that stuck around at least, with a come-from-behind, 41-40, victory over Baltimore on Sunday night.

Allen, on the same weekend he was inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame, rallied the Bills back from a 40-25 deficit with a tremendous and record-breaking fourth quarter. He became the first quarterback in league history to throw for north of 250 yards and account for two scores in a single quarter.

Allen wasn’t the only former Wyoming student-athlete to perform well during the opening week. Below is a list of all the former Pokes and their stat lines in Week 1:

Logan Wilson, Cincinnati Bengals (linebacker)
Wilson enjoyed a solid game, as the Bengals held on for a 17-16 victory at Cleveland. He made seven tackles and defended a pair of passes in his first game back since Nov. 17 of last year. Cincinnati hosts Jacksonville in Week 2.

Andrew Wingard, Jacksonville Jaguars (safety)
Wingard was stout in the Jaguars’ 26-10 win over Carolina. He was second on the team with eight tackles. Jacksonville travels to Cincinnati in Week 2.

Carl Granderson, New Orleans Saints (defensive end)
Granderson had a very productive day in the Saints’ 20-13 loss to Arizona. He racked up six tackles, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, two passes defended and one quarterback hit. New Orleans hosts San Francisco in Week 2.

Marcus Epps, Philadelphia Eagles (safety)
Epps didn’t record a stat in the Eagles’ 24-20 victory over Dallas. Philadelphia travels to Kansas City in Week 2.

Frank Crum, Denver Broncos (offensive tackle)
Crum was inactive in the Broncos’ 20-12 win over Tennessee. Denver travels to Indianapolis in Week 2.

Chad Muma, Indianapolis Colts (linebacker)
Muma was inactive in the Colts’ 33-8 win over Miami. Indianapolis hosts Denver in Week 2.

Treyton Welch, New Orleans Saints (tight end)
Welch is currently on the Saints’ practice squad.

Xazavian Valladay, Minnesota Vikings (running back)
Valladay, Wyoming's second all-time leading rusher behind only Brian Hill, signed with Minnesota this offseason and is currently a member of the practice squad. The Illinois product, who most recently suited up for the Jets, rushed for 3,281 yards and 19 touchdowns during his four seasons in Laramie before capping his college career at Arizona State.

Solomon Byrd, Houston Texans (defensive end)
Byrd was released and resigned by Houston, the team that selected him in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, this offseason and is currently a member of the Texans' practice squad. In four seasons in Laramie, Byrd tallied 87 tackles and 10 sacks. He didn't play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished his career at USC.

Isaiah Neyor, Green Bay Packers (wide receiver)
Neyor was originally signed by the 49ers this offseason as an undrafted free agent. He later caught on in Green Bay where he has been added to the practice squad. Neyor, who played at Wyoming from 2019-21, caught 52 passes for 1,126 yards and 12 touchdowns. He added another on the ground. The Fort Worth product transferred to Texas in 2022 and capped his collegiate career at Nebraska last fall.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
