Wyoming's Senator Barasso is among four Republican U.S. senators pushing a bill that would penalize states that issue driver’s licenses, commercial driver’s licenses, or personal identification cards to illegal immigrants. This also affects who can register to vote.

“Since many illegal immigrants do not speak English and cannot read road signs, these drivers make roads less safe for the law-abiding public,” said Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, in a press release. “While Wyoming already prohibits illegal immigrants from getting driver’s licenses, 19 states and the District of Columbia continue to issue personal and commercial driver’s licenses without verifying legal status.”

It's called the No Licenses for Illegal Drivers or Truckers Act. The bill cuts the status of applicants before issuing an ID or driver’s license.

Funds not given to noncompliant states would be redirected to states that comply.

“We must defund woke sanctuary states who continue to put illegal aliens in the driver’s seat and Americans in the back seat,” Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

This bill also affects voter ID. Only 36 states require prospective voters to present personal ID to vote. The remaining states allow illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses, which have been used as ID for voting purposes by illegals.

Strong opposition is expected from the democrats, much like the opposition to the SAVE Act. The Senate will take up the SAVE America Act, the second version of an extensive elections bill that seeks to increase the restrictions on registering to vote in hopes of cutting down on non-citizen voting.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is federal legislation requiring individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (such as a passport or birth certificate) to register to vote in federal elections. The bill remains a central point of legislative and political debate in Washington.
