When it comes to Wyoming road conditions before and after a Wyoming snow event - we have seen worse. Yet, still, there are some areas to take note of as this early May snow event blankets parts of Wyoming.

As is typical, Interstate 80 is a problem. The pass between Cheyenne and Laramie closed as soon as the snow began.

I-80 between Laramie and Elk Mountain is open, but sketchy. HOLD ON - WYDOT might be closing it. You'll want to check this link to see its current condition.

The usual area between Cheyenne and Chugwater is slick and worth keeping both hands on the wheel while driving slowly.

20/26 between Shashonie and Casper is slick in spots.

  • I-80 (Laramie/Elk Mountain Area): Conditions are slick and slushy with snowfall and limited visibility. A stalled semi is blocking a lane near Laramie (milepost 320).
  • I-25 (Cheyenne/Colorado Line): Wet roads with snowfall and fog, causing reduced visibility.
  • Rest Areas: The Summit Rest Area (I-80) is closed.
  • Construction: Be aware of construction, specifically in the Laramie area on I-80 with right lane closures and reduced speeds, notes WYDOT 511 Service.

HANG ON. We are not done with this weather system.

Expect on and off snow to continue through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Some areas outside the "snow zone" can expect rain. Let's not complain, we need it.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Southeast Wyoming (including Cheyenne and Laramie) will experience lingering snow showers and cloudy conditions, with snow likely to taper off by the afternoon, leading to a sunny but cold day with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s°F and breezy conditions.

That means we need to keep an eye on these road conditions for Tuesday through Wednesday, with attention paid to the overnight hours when all of this moisture can freeze and get slick.
