A trucker is dead following a Sunday crash on Interstate 80 near Cheyenne, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened around 10:24 p.m. at milepost 344, about 15 miles west of Cheyenne.

Trucker Rear-Ends Slow Moving Semi

According to a fatality crash summary from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a 2024 Volvo was westbound in the right lane going about 25 mph with its hazard lights on when a 2016 Volvo going about 65 mph rear-ended it.

"The 2016 Volvo driver did not notice that the 2024 Volvo was traveling slower than the normal traffic flow, so the 2016 Volvo struck the rear of the trailer," the summary reads.

Despite being buckled up, the crash left 41-year-old Oregon resident Leonid Paladiy, one of the drivers, dead. The other driver and a passenger were not injured.

The summary says the interstate was dry and weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash, but it does not list any possible contributing factors.

A call to the Wyoming Highway Patrol seeking more information was not immediately returned.

Paladiy is the second reported person to die on Wyoming's highways this year.

CORRECTION:

The crash happened around 10:24 p.m., not 10:24 a.m. as the fatality crash summary states.
