Mills Man Charged for Allegedly Kicking Pregnant Woman in Stomach
A Mills man with a history of domestic violence kicked a pregnant woman in her stomach Tuesday night, police say.
Mills police arrested Drew St. Gelais Tuesday night on recommended charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence third offense in 10 years. Both charges are felonies and carry with them up to 10 years behind bars, $10,000 in fines or both for each charge.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, police were called to an apartment in Mills after the alleged victim called and reported that St. Gelais kicked her in the stomach.
Police spoke to witnesses who corroborated the alleged victim's story, the affidavit says.
The alleged victim told police that St. Gelais had a history of being abusive toward her. After the alleged victim became pregnant, St. Gelais threatened to beat and hit her in the stomach and push her down stairs until she lost the baby.
Tuesday night, the affidavit says, the alleged victim and St. Gelais were play fighting when St. Gelais began to take things too far. When the alleged victim began to ignore St. Gelais, he became angry and kicked her in the stomach with the heel of his foot, court documents say.
On a scale of one to 10, the alleged victim said the pain from Gelais's kick was about a five or six, according to the affidavit.
Gelais has two prior domestic violence convictions Douglas that happened in 2016 and 2017, respectively, according to court documents.
