The Natrona County Mustangs improved their record to 2-0 on the 2014 season with a win over the defending state champs, the Cheyenne East Thunderbirds.

On a cold and rainy evening in Cheyenne, it was the East High School Thunderbirds who put points on the board first and look as though they were going to add an exclamation point to their 4a state championship from a year ago over the NC Mustangs, but that one touchdown was the last time Cheyenne East would get near the endzone.

East dominated the first quarter of play, but in the 2, 3rd and 4th quarters it was all Natrona Country as the Mustangs picked off East QB Tevis Bartlett 4 times and put 2 touchdowns on the scoreboard en route to a 14-7 victory.

Natrona had a couple of opportunites to extend the lead in the 4th quarter but East forced a couple of tournovers and looked as though they might rally late to tie the game.  However, East used their final timeout with 1:05 on the clock and it was the Mustang's Defense that rose to the occasion once again to finish off the T-birds.

The final score from Cheyenne, Natrona County 14 - Cheyenne East - 7.
