Depending on how you look at it, Casper has either lucked out or missed out on winter weather in the early part of 2025. Sure, we've had snowfall here and there, but it hasn't been as bad as it could have been.

That could all change in the next couple of days as a winter storm warning is in effect for Wednesday night through Friday.

Snowfall is coming. The question of how much snow will fall seems to be the part that no one can exactly put their finger on.

Forecasts show that anywhere between an inch and a foot could fall around the Casper area, meaning you can't be sure until the snow starts falling. So, being ready for the worst is the base-case scenario.

The lack of snow this year could give you a false sense of readiness, and today's the day you should assess whether you're prepared. We've had a few weeks of 'false spring,' so you may have to backtrack and get your mindset back into winter thinking.

Get a plan together and avoid headaches.

Check your emergency preparedness kits to ensure you've replenished the items you used.

Check backup heating sources to ensure they are ready to use at a moment's notice.

Do your pets and livestock have everything they need to survive a blast from old man winter, including shelter, water, food, and warmth?

Look inside your vehicle and ensure all winter equipment is out of the garage and back there.

I know you think you've been through many Wyoming winter storms, but bad things can happen if you're overly confident. Taking a few minutes to prepare could save you thousands of dollars and possibly injury.

The 10 Commandments For Winter Driving in Casper

The town of Casper has its unique challenges during the winter. We have no-plow streets, the wind changes the winter landscape hourly, and the plows leave mountains of snow in the middle of the road. We are also blessed with some great people that are willing to give a helping hand when needed. These are the unspoken rules of the road here in Wyoming.
