The San Francisco 49ers have thrown their hat into the Peyton Manning sweepstakes.  Several members of the 49ers front office and coaching staff are in Durham, N.C. to evaluate the QB.

SF head coach Jim Harbaugh watched Manning workout yesterday and was impressed.  The 49ers even put Manning through a physical.

49ers CEO Jed York was asked by ESPN as to his choice for the team's QB spot, his response being, "It's not my choice.  It's up to the coach and Trent (Baalke, the GM) as to what they want to do.  I'll fully support them".

Alex Smith, who helped the 49ers reach the NFC Championship game last season remains on the market as a free agent, and shares the same agent as Peyton Manning in Tom Condon.  If the 49ers don't get Peyton, it's suspected that Smith will be offered a new contract with San Francisco.
