Time Change Means It’s Time For Wyomingites To Tackle Home Maintenance
We're at the end of October, meaning things are about to change again. The time change is coming, Thanksgiving, winter, and Christmas are right around the corner. There are quite a few things you need to do to make sure you're ready.

I think we're all annoyed by the time changing twice a year, but in reality, it's nice to have a general reminder. If your house is anything like mine, it's mostly chaos all the time. Running from event to event, juggling work and household duties, it seems there are basic tasks we forget to do.

Daylight Saving Time begins in the spring and ends in the fall, when we revert to standard time. This weekend is the weekend when we fall back. So, now's the time to get your checklist ready.
Reminders of household tasks you need to take care of around the time changes.
- Change the batteries in your smoke detectors - That midnight chirp that scares the life out of you can be avoided with fresh batteries, and you'll rest better knowing that your family will be able to rely on a good working detector.
- Clean your dryer - Spending time ensuring your dryer vent pipe and lint trap are clean will do a couple of things for you. Your machine will work better, and you're eliminating a fire hazard.
- HVAC Filters - It gets dusty around your house, and changing the filters is a must. Clean filters will improve air quality and efficiency, and even help extend the life of your heating and air unit.
- Attend to your mattress - if it can be flipped, flip it. If not, you should rotate it and vacuum both styles to remove dead skin cells, dust mites, and they're leftovers.
- Reverse your ceiling fans - I know some of you are thinking, "Wait, my ceiling fan can be reversed?" It sure can. During the wintertime, you should set your fan to clockwise to keep the warm air lower in your room. During the warm months, you'll want it to operate counterclockwise, to draw the warm air up and keep the room cooler.
- Clean the gutters - Leaves, sticks, and other debris will collect there. By keeping them clean, you'll prevent damage to your roof.
- Clean your chimney - Keeping your chimney clean will help you avoid unnecessary fires and poor air quality.
- Attend to your window screens - In the fall, remove them because they aren't needed, and if you keep them in, they could get damaged. In the spring, put them back in and ensure they're in good working order.
