In August 2014, Mabry developed an ear infection she couldn’t shake. Then, her face swelled. Her pediatrician ran blood tests, and within hours, Mabry was a leukemia patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® , where she’s undergoing two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy. “You feel like you’re in a dream,” Mabry’s mom Jenny said. “We were in complete shock.”

Mabry has responded well to treatment and her cancer is in remission. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. Mabry’s sunny disposition hasn’t waned during treatment. “The kids here don’t feel sorry for themselves,” Jenny said. “They just keep going and don’t skip a beat.” Mabry is a happy little girl who loves dressing up like a princess, picking flowers and catching lightning bugs with her dad.
