It's that time of year again, when the kids of CAMBYR are holding a fundraising BBQ on June 26. They're raising money to help fund their racing season by helping with race and travel costs. Stop by 15th and Melrose on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Casper Area Mountain Biking Youth Racing is a Casper-based 9th- to 12th-grade mountain bike racing team. The group is beginning its 15th season, and it's an excellent way for young people to get involved, build self-confidence and friendships, while learning leadership skills and fostering healthy habits.

Most of the races the group attends are outside of Wyoming, and require the team, their families, and coaches to travel. If you know anything about travel sports or activities, you know that it can be an expensive weekend. Food, fuel, uniforms, and other expenses quickly add up.

Helping the team and hosting a great BBQ are easy ways to show your support.

Since the group isn't tied to just one of the Casper high schools, it's open to any high school student who has a mountain bike and would like to participate. CAMBYR provides them with another outlet to learn and grow while competing against other high school students.

If your kids aren't involved or interested in traditional athletics, but love being on a mountain bike and the thought of racing is enticing, CAMBYR may be right up their alley. They'll have the chance to meet kids who may not attend their school, broaden their friend circle, and learn excellent life skills.
