You're a hard-working Wyomingite, and I look forward to kicking back and having a cold one after you get off work.

There's nothing wrong with that, but when your dog is hanging out with you, you should refrain from letting Fido drink with you.

We've all seen videos of people pouring a beer into a dog bowl, and the dog gets a little shaky after drinking it. You may have giggled at the sight of a drunk pup, but it could be deadly for the dog.

According to the PetMoo YouTube channel, alcoholic drinks of any kind can be fatal for your dog in any quantity. Not only alcoholic beverages, but your dog can suffer from alcohol poisoning from anything that contains alcohol—things like rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, mouthwash, antifreeze, and many others on top of adult beverages.

Depending on the size of your dog and whether or not they have a full or empty stomach will play a big part in how quickly alcohol will affect them.

Here's a list from PetMd of the multiple ways toxic alcohol can affect your dog:

  • Vomiting
  • Excessive saliva
  • Frequent peeing
  • Diarrhea
  • Lack of coordination
  • Depression
  • Tremors
  • Breathing issues
  • Weakness

Severe cases can include:

  • Going into a coma
  • Low body temp
  • Low blood pressure
  • Seizures
  • Low heart rate

Any of these symptoms could result in death for your pup, so if your dog drinks alcohol, you should act fast.

Contact your vet immediately and let them know the following information.

  • The product your dog was exposed to.
  • How much they drank or came in contact with.
  • The time they were exposed.
  • The abnormal signs that you're seeing from your dog.

If you want to share a beer with your dog, dog brews on the market are dog-friendly and don't include alcohol. You can check out the different brands and even order them from Rover.com.

I am by no means a lawyer, but according to the State of Wyoming, giving your dog booze could cause you big issues.

Wyoming has strict animal cruelty laws, and if you put your pet in danger by intentionally giving it alcohol, the penalties could lead to significant fines or jail time.
