The Ultimate Cowboy Game Just Came Out and it’s Amazing
It's true that I'm a big grown-up 12-year-old. The grown-up part is just a rumor. I'm not gonna lie and say I don't love playing video games and especially ones set in the Wild West. Good news for me as the the ultimate cowboy video game just came out and it's amazing.
I'm talking about Red Dead Redemption 2. Before I get into the new game, a little backstory. I played the first Red Dead Redemption from start to finish twice. It was the story of John Marston who's trying to free his wife and son being held hostage. My wife was so happy with me sitting on the couch staring at the TV occasionally yelling "Yippy Kay Yay!". Not really.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set 10 years before the first game according to the Wikipedia page. Compared to the first game, this is a sprawling massive game that many are estimating could take 120 hours to complete. I'll apologize to my wife now.
What do you do in the game? You get to be a cowboy and that includes making sure you eat enough, watch the weather and do cowboy/outlaw things. If you do bad things, the law will look for you with a bounty on your head.
It gets better. The fictional setting is based on Wyoming and Montana according to the website PCGamesN. Here's their description:
A mountain range that resembles the Rocky Mountains also features in the trailer, while shots of grizzly bears and lush forests all but confirm a shift eastwards towards states like Wyoming and Montana.
That means us Wyoming folk are gonna see a lot of familiar looking territory. But, is the game any good. Yes. A big fat YES. I'm not alone in my opinion. IGN gave it a perfect 10 out of 10. The Verge called it a "an amazingly detailed and expertly crafted game". Kotaku lavished praise on Red Dead Redemption 2 saying "this game has heart; the kind of heart that is difficult to pin down but impossible to deny".
There you go. If you're a Wyoming video game player that has daydreamed about having the ultimate cowboy game, now you have it. It's called Red Dead Redemption 2 and it's amazing and it's available on Xbox One and PS4 now.
