I wasn't around when Mount Rushmore was finished, but a throwback video I found from 80 years ago shows what that process was like.

Check out this retro video shared by the Penn Museum.

If you're familiar with the history of Mount Rushmore, you know it was completed in October of 1941. That places this video within the last year as the carvers were finishing up their work. Side note, Wikipedia says that Nick Clifford, one of the last carvers of the monument, passed away in November of 2019.

This video is so much more than just Mount Rushmore. It begins with a look at Yellowstone back in 1940 also with Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Old Faithful and Yellowstone Lake featured prominently.

For my money, you can't do enough to preserve video from this era of America. It's a bygone time showing the genesis of some of our regional landmarks.
