Twelve Apply For Vacant Casper City Council Position
Twelve people from Ward I in central Casper have filed to applications to fill the vacancy of council member Amanda Huckabay, according to the city's website.
Huckabay resigned unexpectedly March 2, saying she was moving to St. George, Utah, with her fiancé and daughter.
That started the clock for the Casper City Council to receive applications, and the deadline ended Monday.
Council will meet at City Hall, 200 N. David St., at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. It will interview each candidate for five minutes, take a break at 5 p.m., resume at 5:10 p.m., and finish at 5:40 p.m.
Council members will ask these questions of the candidates:
- Tell us about yourself.
- Explain why you want to serve on the City Council.
- Describe your qualifications and how they will benefit the City of Casper.
- Are you willing to run for re-election in 2018?
- Tell us about your availability to serve the time commitments of Council meetings and board meetings throughout the week and month. Regular meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month, and work sessions are held at 4:30 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday. Council members also are assigned to serve on as many as four boards or committees that meet monthly. Additional strategic planning sessions and special/executive meetings are scheduled as needed.
Council then will go into executive session, return from executive session, reconvene and appoint Huckabay's successor to fill the remainder of her term ending in 2021.
